Friendship Cafés

Join us for tasty, nutritious food and pleasant conversation with other seniors at a Friendship Café near you. Enjoy old friends and make new ones in a friendly atmosphere, often with live entertainment, games, informational programs, outings, and other social activities.

Who May Attend?


Age 60 or older.
Not home-bound.
Living in a private residence (not a current resident of an adult care residence, assisted living facility, or nursing home).
Residing in the counties of Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, Washington, or Wythe, or the cities of Bristol, or Galax, VA.
Also eligible are the spouses and dependent adult children of members.


What Does The Friendship Café Provide?


A hot, nutritious meal providing one-third of the recommended dietary allowance.
Exercise opportunities, information on senior issues, health, and nutrition education.
Health screenings and other education, enrichment, and social activities.
Volunteer opportunities, such as calling to check on isolated seniors.
Assistance with locating additional services, if needed.


How Much Does It Cost?


There is NO CHARGE for this service. All participants are encouraged to contribute according to their ability; however, there is no obligation. Donations help us provide more meals for seniors in our community and are voluntary and confidential.

Friendship Café days may vary but hours generally run from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm.

How Can I Get There?


Participants can drive themselves, get rides with friends and family, or (where available) use one of the public transit buses provided and coordinated by Mountain Lynx Transit.
